As a Referral Order Panel Volunteer, you will play an important role in supporting children and young people who have been sentenced to a Referral Order by the Youth Court. Working as part of a panel alongside the Youth Partnership Service, you will participate in meetings to help develop meaningful contracts that encourage positive change and support rehabilitation.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Participate in panel meetings to develop meaningful contracts that encourage positive change and support rehabilitation.
- Engage with children, young people and their families to explore the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
- Encourage accountability, promote understanding of the impact of their actions and support restorative approaches.
- Help young people make positive choices and contribute to safer, stronger communities.
- Compassionate, open‑minded, and able to build positive relationships with children, young people, families and professionals from a range of agencies.
- Confident communicator with strong listening skills, able to consider different viewpoints, think objectively and contribute balanced decisions.
- Ability to remain calm in challenging situations, manage conflict with sensitivity and demonstrate respect for people from all ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds.
- Commitment to attend an average of one to two panel meetings each month (approximately 1–3 hours per meeting) for at least one year.
- Completed training provided by Luton Youth Partnership Service and passed a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check conducted by Luton Borough Council.
- Fluency in speaking and writing English (public‑facing role).
