Student Support Assistant
Location: Brighton
Salary: £25,640 – £27,040 per annum

About the RoleAs a Student Support Assistant, you’ll be part of a centrally coordinated, digital-first support service, helping students access the information, guidance and support they need throughout their time at the University. Acting as a first point of contact, you’ll respond to enquiries across a range of channels, provide timely and accurate information, assess student needs through triage processes, and connect students with the appropriate support, resources and services.
What You'll Do:- Respond to student enquiries via email, telephone and digital channels, ensuring a timely and professional service.
- Provide first-line support to students seeking practical, pastoral or wellbeing-related guidance.
- Use agreed triage processes to assess enquiries and identify appropriate support pathways.
- Signpost and refer students to relevant University services, self-help resources or external support where appropriate.
- Recognise indicators of risk or vulnerability and elevate concerns in line with safeguarding procedures.
- Deliver calm, student-centred support that helps students feel informed and supported.
- Contribute to student communications and the maintenance of digital information and support resources.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and timely records using University systems and case‑management processes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective enquiry management and service delivery.
- Experience in a customer-facing, administrative, communications or support role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Experience supporting young adults or service users within a pastoral, wellbeing or support-focused environment.
- The ability to respond to sensitive situations with empathy, professionalism and sound judgement.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work accurately under established processes.
- Confidence using digital systems and online platforms, with a high level of attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a remote or distributed team.
- An understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to providing an inclusive and positive student experience.
Our client has two Student Support Assistant positions available: one full-time role (37.5 hours per week) and one part-time role (30 hours per week).
