Position: Housing Assessments Officer

Housing Assessment Officer

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Housing Assessment Officer to join our newly restructured team.

In this role, you will provide a statutory homelessness and housing advice service, supporting households in the relief stage or final duty of a statutory homelessness assessment. You will be responsible for fulfilling statutory duties under the Housing Act, including actions to relieve homelessness, updating personalised Housing Plans, and making decisions on what duty is owed by the Council during the course of managing an application.

Additionally, you will support households in Temporary Accommodation to move on to a sustainable housing solution. You will work closely with senior officers and managers to deliver an efficient, front‑line service that aligns with the Council’s vision, core values, and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide statutory homelessness advice and support to households in the relief stage or final duty of a statutory homelessness assessment.
  • Fulfil statutory duties under the Housing Act, including actions to relieve homelessness, updating personalised Housing Plans, and deciding on the duty owed by the Council.
  • Support households in Temporary Accommodation to transition to sustainable housing solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior officers and managers to deliver an efficient, front‑line service aligned to council priorities.
  • Operate as an “any‑desk” worker, maintaining connectivity to the council network and working from home or an office as required.
  • Adhere to the 4‑month probation period requirement to work from the office, and thereafter work from the office a couple of times per week, depending on team requirements.
Qualifications & Attributes
  • Proactive approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders to improve efficiency and service delivery.
  • Experience or interest in strategy and policy development, and innovative ways of working.
  • Strong customer service orientation and a passion for helping those in need.
  • Optional:
    Law degree or keen interest in applying Statutory Law.
