Attendance Officer

Location: Walsall (Hybrid – remote working with home and school visits)
Pay Rate: Up to £17.85 per hour PAYE (dependent on experience)
Hours: 30 hours per week across 4 days
Contract: Term-time only until 31 March 2027, with potential extension
Requirements: Car essential with business insurance | 2 professional references required

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated Attendance Officer to join the School Attendance Support Service in Walsall.

The service works in partnership with schools, families, and partner agencies to monitor, improve, and promote regular school attendance. Through a supportive and restorative approach, we help identify barriers to attendance, work with families to overcome challenges, and ensure children and young people receive the education they are entitled to.

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting schools and families to improve attendance outcomes and help children achieve their full potential.

The Role

You will manage a varied caseload, working independently within a statutory framework and graduated response model. You will build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, school staff, and external agencies to reduce absence and support sustained engagement in education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working directly with schools and families to improve attendance levels
  • Conducting home visits and attending parental meetings
  • Supporting pupils and families experiencing barriers to regular attendance
  • Providing advice, guidance, and practical support to schools
  • Monitoring attendance data and maintaining accurate case records
  • Preparing clear and professional reports
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes
About You

We are looking for a passionate and resilient professional who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.

You will have:

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families
  • Experience with in an educational setting, with knowledge of attendance support
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
  • The confidence to provide flexible, individualised support based on family needs
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Excellent report writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experience using IT systems to maintain records and analyse information
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to communicate clearly and professionally in spoken and written English
