Safe Haven Team Lead

Salary: £29,795 per year (FTE) plus a 30% enhancement for hours worked between 11 pm–12 am (actual payment £21,893.83 including the enhancement).

Hours:

22 hours – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 6 pm–12 am, plus 4 hours of admin time primarily on a Tuesday morning (26 total hours).

About the Role

The Safe Haven Team Lead supervises and supports a small team of Mental Health Crisis Support Workers within the Safe Haven Service, an out‑of‑hours support provision for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide vision and high‑quality line management, support, and supervision to the staff team.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Buckinghamshire Mind Operational Management Team.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for service users facing out‑of‑hours mental health crises, offering a calming alternative to emergency departments.
  • Raise service‑user awareness of alternative mental health services appropriate to personal need.
  • Treat service users with respect and deliver personalised support focused on individual needs.
  • Increase the independence and self‑management skills of those accessing the service.
Ideal Candidate
  • Proven ability to lead, support, supervise, and motivate staff; manage workload effectively; work collaboratively while taking initiative and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emotional crises, high‑risk situations, de‑escalation, safety planning, and suicide prevention.
  • Skilled in supporting people with mental health difficulties to build independence, develop self‑management strategies, and make positive change, with a consistently respectful and hopeful attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high‑quality services and build positive, constructive relationships with external agencies and partners.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills; commitment to confidentiality, equal opportunities, diversity, and alignment with the aims and values of Buckinghamshire Mind.
