The role is particularly suited to candidates with experience supporting vulnerable individuals and families facing challenges such as homelessness, mental or physical health difficulties, substance misuse, financial hardship and domestic abuse.

Homelessness Service Teams provide short-term emergency accommodation and support when preventing homelessness is not possible. The aim is to help people move into appropriate long-term accommodation as quickly as possible.

As a Housing Support Worker, you will help clients transition from temporary or supported accommodation into suitable housing options, including:

• Private rented accommodation
• Social housing
• Supported housing
• Other appropriate long-term housing solutions

You will also help ensure that clients have the right ongoing support in place to maintain their tenancies successfully.

• Support vulnerable individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing difficulties.
• Help clients move from temporary accommodation into suitable permanent housing.
• Assess individual needs and identify appropriate housing and support options.
• Work with housing providers, social services, health professionals and other organisations.
• Provide practical and emotional support to clients.
• Help clients understand and access welfare benefits and other available services.
• Support people experiencing mental or physical health challenges, substance misuse, domestic abuse and financial difficulties.
• Build positive and professional relationships with clients.
• Maintain accurate records and provide appropriate reports.
• Promote independence and help clients develop the skills needed to maintain stable accommodation.
• Safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults in accordance with relevant policies.

The successful candidate should have:

• Experience working with vulnerable individuals, families or people experiencing homelessness.
• Knowledge of the challenges associated with homelessness and housing insecurity.
• Understanding of welfare benefits and housing-related services.
• Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies and organisations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable people.
• A compassionate, professional and solution-focused approach.

A DBS check may be required before appointment where the role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

This position is based in the UK, and applicants must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
