The Role &

Key Responsibilities

Training is a very busy and challenging yet rewarding role like no other position in Surrey Police. You will be well supported to not only develop new officers but also yourself.

The primary role of the Trainer will be to train newly-appointed Police Officers, Learner Detectives, Investigating Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSO'S) to be effective and efficient members of Surrey Police.

Applicants should have a sound knowledge and understanding of frontline operational policing and be able to evidence this if required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, develop, deliver, and maintain initial and refresher training programmes for Student Officers, and other employees.
  • Supervise, support, and develop learners in classroom settings, virtual environments, and operational situations.
  • Ensure a safe training environment by completing and regularly reviewing risk assessments for all activities
  • Manage learning and assessment processes to support learner progress, working with the University and other stakeholders to help students meet academic requirements
  • Conduct tutorials to review individual progress, provide guidance, and promote continuous learning and development.
  • Complete all required administrative and clerical tasks associated with training delivery.
  • Prepare and deliver interview training, including PIP 1.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide support to the wider Learning and Development team as needed.
Skills & Experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to facilitate the development of others and to influence and empower students so that they are able to make any required adjustments to their behaviour.
  • Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for individuals & teams.
  • The ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the concept of diversity, with the ability to embed this knowledge throughout all learning and development programmes.
  • Well-developed written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate records and reports.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative under minimal supervision, being flexible with other partners who are linked to the learners progress e.g. Universities, External Assessors.
  • Be fully conversant with Microsoft Office products, with accurate keyboard skills.
  • Ideally you should possess a Level 4 training qualification but you will be provided with internal training for the role.
