Help shape a cleaner, greener Birmingham

Do you have experience engaging with communities and a passion for making a difference? Birmingham City Council is looking for enthusiastic Public Participation Officers to support our work on waste transformation, street cleansing and environmental enforcement.

Working as part of our Public Participation Team, you will engage directly with residents, community groups and stakeholders to understand local issues, gather insight and encourage participation in improving neighbourhood services. You'll work closely with colleagues in other directorates to ensure citizen feedback helps shape service delivery and future improvements.

We're looking for people who:

  • Have experience in community engagement, consultation or public participation.
  • Are confident communicators who can build relationships with diverse communities.
  • Can analyse and present feedback and insight effectively.
  • Are proactive, organised and passionate about improving local services.

The role involves travelling across Birmingham and occasional evening and weekend work to support engagement activities, so having access to a car is desirable.

If you're passionate about putting residents at the heart of decision-making and want to help make Birmingham a cleaner and more sustainable city, we'd love to hear from you.

What we offer in return…

  • Membership of West Midlands Pension Fund
    – with generous employer contributions
  • Enhanced Holiday Entitlement
    – 30 days, increasing with length of service
  • My Rewards Scheme – access to over 800 brands providing discounts and savings
  • Health and wellbeing support
    – independent and confidential employee assistance and counselling
