Senior Software Engineer, Criminal Screenings
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Criminal Screenings team at Checkr, you will help advance our platform to ensure precise criminal search results. You will collaborate with engineers and product counterparts to architect and deliver new platform capabilities, modernize the technical stack, and automate workflows to improve scalability and efficiency.
What You’ll Do- Develop new platform capabilities and product offerings from design through release
- Balance speed to market with long-term growth by designing for today and the horizon
- Partner with Product to define initiatives and construct a quarterly roadmap
- Maintain system availability by participating in on-call rotation, addressing support tickets, and implementing reliability improvements
- Provide mentorship to engineers on the team and across the organization
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering organization through team discussions and reviews with leadership.
What You Bring- 6+ years of backend software development experience with strong proficiency in Ruby (preferred), Golang, or JavaScript/Type Script
- Solid understanding of CS fundamentals, including databases, data structures, algorithms, and REST APIs
- Experience with domain modeling, object design, and system architecture
- Proven ability to write clear, tested, and concise code
- Ability to create and review technical proposals, with informed trade-offs
- Strong sense of ownership across the development lifecycle, including incident response
- Desire to collaborate and share knowledge across teams

Hybrid work environment with hub locations in Denver, CO;
San Francisco, CA; and Santiago, Chile. Employees are expected to work from the office 2–3 days per week (3 days per week starting January 2026). In-office perks include meals, commuter stipends, and snacks.
