We are on a mission to be the leading content provider for equestrian sports fans, broadcasting major events across Europe and the USA. Our focus is on delivering beautiful frontends that bring the best equestrian content to our audience across devices.
Role OverviewAs a Backend Developer , you will be at the core of our product's evolution. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of new features, from planning and architectural design to implementation and quality assurance. Working with PHP in a Symfony and/or Laravel environment, you will develop robust applications, APIs, and services. We are looking for a developer who loves to learn, enjoys their craft, and has a strong sense of ownership and the ability to understand the business impact of their work.
WhatYou Can Expect
- End-to-End Feature Ownership: You will plan, develop, and implement new features for our product across our API, Web Application, and services, taking full responsibility for their quality and success.
- High-Quality Implementation: Build clean, maintainable, testable, secure, and performant features, applying best practices like Domain-driven Design and SOLID principles.
- Integrated Quality Assurance: Reduce business risk by assessing feature complexity, defining testing strategies, and building comprehensive automated tests to ensure functional and non-functional requirements are met.
- Autonomy and Impact: You will have the autonomy and self-organization to manage your work, with the expectation that you can evaluate and understand the impact of your contributions on the product and the company’s business goals.
- Agile & Iterative Development: Work within an agile environment to create and ship MVPs that can be A/B tested in production, allowing us to validate ideas and iterate quickly.
- Collaboration & Improvement: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other developers to create well-rounded solutions. You will actively contribute to improving team processes, participating in code reviews, and architectural discussions.
- A history of work on professionally relevant projects or FOSS projects.
- Strong experience with PHP and a modern web framework (preferably Symfony and/or Laravel).
- Solid experience with automated testing.
- Proficiency in designing, using, and modeling REST APIs.
- Experience with relational database modeling and usage (preferably MySQL/Maria
DB). - Deep understanding of Object-Oriented design and architecture (e.g., SOLID Principles, Object Calisthenics).
- Experience with caching at different levels.
- Proficiency with Git for version control.
- Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
While not mandatory, experience or familiarity with the following is a big plus:
- Knowledge or certifications in AWS.
- Experience in building microservices, serverless, cloud-native, or event-driven applications.
- Knowledge in other languages such as Go.
- Experience with remote work.
- Experience in the content and/or broadcast industry.
