Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Powered By Affi)

The Powered by Affi (PBA) team builds the APIs and solutions that power all of Affi’s integrations with Enterprise Merchants and Partners. We design, build, and manage APIs that drive checkout and merchant onboarding, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver custom end‑to‑end solutions.

• Set technical strategy for your team over a year‑long cycle, aligning it with critical business‑impacting projects.
• Contribute to the API lifecycle: designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and evolving APIs.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring technical sustainability and managing risks.
• Act as a force‑multiplier by advocating technical solutions and operational processes beyond your team.
• Own team operations and availability: implement monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting for reliability and on‑call support.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and advocating them through writing and tech talks.
• Develop team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and exemplary leadership.

• 7+ years as a software engineer.
• Proficiency in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating functionality with clear technical execution plans and high‑quality code.
• Thrives in ambiguity, moving from low‑level language idioms to large‑system architecture.
• Strong verbal and written communication supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base Pay Grade - P

Equity Grade - USA 13

Employees new to Affi typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affi focuses on a simple, transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and job‑related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $225,000 - $275,000

USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $200,000 - $250,000

Affi is proud to be a remote‑first company! The majority of roles are remote, and you can work from anywhere within your country of employment. Some roles may require occasional on‑site presence at an assigned Affi office.
