Senior Android Engineer – Everand Team

Join Scribd, Inc. to shape how people discover, organize, and enjoy books. As a Senior Android Engineer on the Everand team, you will own key consumption areas—Home, Discover, Saved, and the Audio Player—building features that drive performance, personalization, and reliability.

About The Company

Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”) is on a mission to spark human curiosity. We create a world of stories and knowledge, democratizing the exchange of ideas through four products:
Everand, Scribd, Slideshare, and Fable. Our culture values real, bold debate, intentional collaboration, and a focus on the customer. Scribd Flex offers flexible work styles with intentional in‑person moments to build culture and connection.

About

The Role
  • Design and build high‑quality Android experiences that personalize reading and listening across Everand’s audiobook and eBook catalog.
  • Collaborate with product, design, quality engineering, and other engineers to deliver performant, intuitive, and visually polished features.
  • Strengthen the app’s architecture and performance, ensuring smooth playback, fast load times, and a reliable offline experience.
  • Contribute to technical direction, helping evolve Everand’s Android foundations and best practices.
  • Partner with peers to improve code quality, test coverage, and release reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentorship, and design discussions to help the team grow and deliver cohesively.
  • Champion a user‑first mindset, grounding technical decisions in the reading and listening experience.
What We’re Excited About You
  • Extensive Android development experience with a strong track record of shipping quality consumer apps at scale.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flows, and modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM or MVI).
  • Commitment to clean, maintainable code and a keen eye for usability, accessibility, and performance.
  • Experience with media or streaming apps (e.g., Exo Player or Media3) and delivering seamless playback and offline experiences.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration skills—communicating early and often with product, design, and QA.
  • Ownership from concept to release, preferring long‑term thinking over short‑term fixes.
  • Enjoy mentoring, knowledge sharing, and fostering a cohesive team culture.
  • Deep empathy for users, translating their needs into impactful features.
Plus (Optional)
  • Improving app reliability, load performance, or crash metrics in large‑scale Android apps.
  • Familiarity with dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger) and Compose Navigation.
  • Exposure to Auth0 or similar authentication frameworks.
  • Interest in cross‑platform collaboration with iOS or React Native teams.
