Backend Engineer, Feature Management Remote

Launch Darkly is seeking a Backend Engineer to help build enterprise-scale capabilities that empower the world’s largest organizations to adopt feature management best practices.

This team helps organizations take Launch Darkly best practices to the next level—making release management a powerful, everyday part of software delivery. They empower teams to build, visualize, standardize, and automate their processes.

In this role, you’ll partner with a talented cross-functional team to bring powerful backend services to life in Go, design APIs that drive new automation and governance workflows, and build the internal frameworks that make enterprise adoption seamless.

You’ll tackle complex, real-world technical challenges—the same ones Launch Darkly faces at scale—and your solutions will make a direct impact not only on how we work internally, but also on how our largest customers deliver software to the world.

• Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power enterprise automation, governance, and release management features within Launch Darkly.
• Contribute to technical solutions that address complex enterprise customer needs, helping large organizations adopt consistent and reliable software delivery practices.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and implement end-to-end features that support compliance and operational maturity.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions, offering thoughtful input and collaborating with senior engineers to make well-informed trade-offs.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including other Launch Darkly engineering teams, to understand real-world challenges and improve release management workflows using our own platform.
• Follow and promote best practices for backend development, testing, and observability, contributing to a culture of engineering excellence.
• Take ownership of code in production, participate in on-call rotations, and help improve the reliability and maintainability of our systems over time.

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development, with a history of contributing to robust, well-architected systems.
• Demonstrated experience working on scalable and reliable distributed systems, ideally in environments that support enterprise-grade requirements.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Rust, C++), with a willingness and ability to learn new technologies as needed.
• Experience building and consuming APIs, particularly in contexts that support system integration or workflow automation.
• Good understanding of system design and domain modeling, with some exposure to building reusable components or internal tooling.
• Familiarity with observability concepts such as metrics, tracing, structured logging, and debugging in distributed systems.
• A collaborative engineer who takes ownership of their work, communicates clearly, and thrives in cross-functional teams.
• Enthusiasm for improving how software is delivered at scale—whether through automation, standardization, or empowering engineering teams with better tools and practices.

Pay: Target pay ranges based on Geographic Zones for Level P3:

• Zone 1:
  San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle - $167,000 - $229,000
• Zone 2:
  Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago - $150,000 - $206,000
• Zone 3:
  All other US locations - $141,000 - $195,000
