Overview
Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Loans Platform) are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for the Loans Platform team, responsible for Affirm’s core loans products. You will guide the team to scale the product and add new features to make loans more compelling and accessible to more consumers. You will work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to support growth by launching new products and building a trusted financial services brand rooted in honesty and trust.
WhatYou'll Do
- Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and support delivery.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and make decisions with appropriate consideration of risks and trade-offs.
- Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
- Support operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
- Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
- Develop talent on your team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
- Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design; high-quality, easily understood code.
- Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base and developing tools and practices to do so safely.
- Ownership of personal growth with proactive feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Base pay ranges are provided as part of total compensation and may include equity rewards, stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and additional benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). USA base pay ranges are indicative and vary by location.
- USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $190,000 - $240,000
- USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $169,000 - $219,000
- Equity Grade - 8
