Cloud Engineer - Software, Software Engineer, Backend Developer
About the Role
Exposure Management is extending Crowd Strike's mission of "stopping breaches" into the next level of sophistication and visibility by ingesting massive amounts of risk data and applying various techniques and algorithms (including Machine Learning) to provide visibility that was not seen before (attack paths, posture score) across your hosts and cloud assets/workloads.
In this role you will use the latest technologies for building backend services that will ingest data, perform calculations and provide remediation tooling and automation. The language the team uses is GoLang for building microservices and you’ll use various database systems.
We’re a highly collaborative and friendly group that prizes collaboration over competition. We provide opportunities to learn new skills, mentor fellow engineers, and contribute to the direction of both the team and the products for which we’re responsible. We work in a distributed, remote‑first, high‑trust environment where you manage your own time and have the flexibility to balance your work and personal life.
As a remote employee, you connect to your co‑workers mostly via Slack and Zoom. In this setting your ability to work unsupervised, communicate asynchronously, and take initiative in maintaining lines of communication is crucial.
- Development of back‑end services hosting both private and public‑facing web services.
- Development of public‑facing command‑line shell utilities, some of which interact with your web services.
- Design of supporting infrastructure (databases, real‑time data streams, etc.).
- Integration support and documentation for complimentary teams (e.g., UX/UI, Sensors, etc.).
- Participation in configuring and receiving uptime alerts related to the services you control.
- Reflect thoughtfully to improve architecture, models, user experience, performance, and stability following successful rapid prototyping and fast‑paced decision making.
- Brainstorm and refine how customers use and apply the vast amounts of data we collect to automate cyber threat intelligence at global scale.
- Keeping services up and running in a healthy state.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and experience with large‑scale distributed systems.
- Experience programming in at least one object‑oriented programming language with strong typing (we write code in Golang and Python).
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful API web services.
- Experience interacting with major cloud provider APIs to provision cloud infrastructure and to monitor it (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience using a message queue (we use Kafka).
- Understanding of a key‑value distributed caching solution such as Redis.
- Experience using an RDBMS such as Postgres and accompanying knowledge of SQL.
- Experience troubleshooting highly distributed systems, including scalability concerns (concurrency, immutability, sharding, eventual consistency).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; proficiency with common algorithms, data structures, and code whiteboarding.
- A minimum of seven years of experience working with enterprise cloud‑based systems.
- Machine learning or AI experience.
- Understanding of full‑text search of application logs and event data in Elasticsearch.
- Experience with Cassandra, CQL, and its wide‑column store database.
- Experience using graph structures (nodes, edges), graph data, and graph databases.
- Prior industry experience or certification related to cybersecurity.
- Remote‑friendly and flexible work culture.
- Market leader in compensation and equity awards.
- Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs.
- Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge.
- Paid parental and adoption leaves.
- Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role.
- Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to build connections.
- Vibrant office culture with world‑class amenities.
- Great Place to Work Certified™ across the globe.
