Software Development Manager - AI, Westlaw
We're looking for a technically strong Software Development Manager to help us transform legal research - and litigation workflows more broadly - with GenAI.
In this role, you'll guide, empower a team of talented engineers, oversee the end-to-end creation of robust UI and backend services, and influence strategic decisions that drive our Westlaw product delivery forward.

Engaged in design and own implementation of UI and/or backend solutions using modern frameworks and technologies, stepping in to code when necessary. - Strategize & Collaborate

Work with cross‑functional teams-product managers, designers, and other leaders-to define product strategy, set technical direction, and deliver innovative features. - Drive Execution
:
Own the team roadmap and project lifecycle, ensuring that initiatives move from ideation to successful production launches. - Mentor & Develop

Coach engineers, support professional development, and cultivate an environment where everyone can excel. - Measure Impact
:
Define success metrics to track and evaluate project outcomes, using data‑driven insights to guide future decisions. - Shape Technology
:
Provide guidance on architecture, design, and best practices for front‑end and back‑end development.
You're a fit for the role of Software Development Manager, AI if your background includes:
Required Skills and Experience- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Equivalent Experience.
- Software Engineering
Experience:
Over 5 years of hands‑on experience in software engineering with a demonstrated history of leading the development of scalable, web‑based solutions. Proficient in designing and implementing RESTful APIs. - Back‑end Proficiency: Strong familiarity or experience with popular Python frameworks, including Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Front‑end Proficiency: Skilled in using modern UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar, along with Type Script and Node.js.
- Data Engineering and MLOps Background: Solid foundation in data engineering or machine learning operations (MLOps).
- Cloud Technology
Experience:
More than 3 years of experience working with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP, with a preference for AWS. - Dev Ops Practices: Well‑versed in Dev Ops methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
- AI Framework Knowledge: Familiar with AI frameworks such as Tensor Flow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face, as well as GenAI concepts like prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), and fine‑tuning.
- Agile Development
Experience:
Experienced in agile development methodologies. - AI Tools: Experience in using AI‑powered tools in SDLC is required.
- Managerial
Experience:
3+ years of managing engineering teams, with success in coaching, mentoring, and nurturing talent. - Problem‑Solving
Skills:
Ability to navigate ambiguity, make data‑driven decisions, and deliver impactful results in a fast‑paced environment. - Strategic Mindset: Adept at driving product innovation and ensuring that technical decisions align with broader business goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with AWS platforms; AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Dev Ops Engineer, etc.) preferred.
