Golang System Software Engineer – Containers / Virtualisation

Join Canonical’s LXD team as a Golang systems software engineer working on low‑level Go code that bridges our REST API and the underlying C libraries managing containers and virtual machines. This role focuses on system‑level code design, data modelling and distributed cloud technologies.

• Design, implement and document system‑level Go code.
• Model data, design database schemas and implement data storage in a dqlite (SQL) database.
• Maintain code quality through static analysis, unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
• Discuss design ideas and collaborate on finding robust solutions.
• Work from home, with 2‑to‑4 weeks of in‑person travel per year for internal and external events.

• Experience programming in Go and
  
  C.
• Knowledge of networking and storage technologies.
• Experience with one or more of: cloud computing, virtualisation, containers, distributed systems, or open source community.
• Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability.
• Strong soft skills and an enterprising, thoughtful, self‑motivated attitude.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
