Golang System Software Engineer - Containers / Virtualisation

Join Canonical as a Golang System Software Engineer in the LXD team, where we build a next‑generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph, and SDN. The role focuses on low‑level Go code that interfaces with C libraries managing containers and virtual machines, requiring strong system‑level design and data management skills.

Location: Remote (EMEA and Americas)

• Design, implement and document system‑level Go code.
• Model data, design database schemas and implement storage in a dqlite (SQL) database.
• Maintain code quality through static analysis, unit and system testing.
• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
• Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions.
• Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

• Experience programming in Go and
  
  C.
• Knowledgeable in networking and storage technologies.
• Experience with two or more of: cloud computing, virtualization, containers, distributed systems, open‑source community.
• Curiosity, flexibility, articulation and accountability.
• Valuing soft skills; enterprising, thoughtful and self‑motivated.
• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.
