Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Billing Platform – Hybrid

Join GEICO Tech as a Senior Software Engineer on the Billing Platform team. This hybrid role combines on‑site and remote work across Palo Alto, Dallas, and Chevy Chase.

$100,000 – $215,000 per year

The Billing Platform team builds and maintains the core billing engine, invoicing system, commissions management, collections, payment processing, CRM integration, subscription management, credit control, dunning, reporting and analytics. The platform is the backbone for delivering seamless billing experiences to internal users, end customers and partners.

• Architect high‑level and low‑level designs for one or more sub‑systems of the billing platform.
• Own quality, reliability, usability and performance of the solutions.
• Provide strategic guidance and oversight for multiple billing teams, ensuring alignment with the platform’s technical vision.
• Lead design and development of complex software systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability and high‑quality standards.
• Identify and prioritize technical challenges and develop solutions to mitigate risk to business.
• Collaborate closely with product, design and cross‑functional teams for cohesive project delivery.
• Mentor teammates, fostering continuous learning and improvement.
• Guide engineers on technical decisions and help them overcome challenges.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with the following minimum requirements. Preferred qualifications are a bonus.

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience designing and architecting large‑scale, complex systems.
• Proficient coding skills in Java, Kotlin, Golang or a similar language.
• Experience with SQL, No
  
  SQL, Kafka, Spark, Airflow or equivalent.
• Proficiency in cloud computing, Dev Ops, observability, telemetry and test automation.
• Excellent collaboration across engineering teams and other functions.

• Financial technology sector experience focused on billing, payments, subscription management and financial reporting.
• Track record designing and implementing workflow engines.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
