Compensation

$100,000 – $120,000 per year, depending on experience.

Schedule

Full‑time. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday (core hours).

Job Description

When you join Legislative Information Systems (LIS), you’ll be part of a team working to make an impact serving our state by creating and supporting legislative applications and users. Mission

LIS serves the Ohio General Assembly and legislative agencies by providing operational efficiency, strategic planning, and innovation in a cost‑effective manner for the implementation and advancement of technology across the legislature.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in all aspects of the SDLC
  • Collaborate with product managers, other engineers, and domain experts to design and develop applications
  • Collaborate with network engineers to ensure that the value of applications is achieved
  • Create software development documentation
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and technical support
  • Assign or assist in the allocation of work to team members as an experienced engineer of the development team
  • Create and maintain software applications while modeling industry best practices and standards (e.g., fixing bugs, developing new features, writing tests, code review, etc.)
  • Identify root causes of complex issues while communicating the benefits and drawbacks of different approaches
  • Actively contribute to empowerment of the team (e.g., mentor less experienced members, spread internal system knowledge, assist team members in delivering solutions as needed, etc.)

Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of object‑oriented languages and/or relational database design
  • Degree in technology or equivalent education and related work experience
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and receive guidance from senior team members
  • Experience with modern programming languages (Java, Python, Ruby, JavaScript), CSS, HTML, source control (GIT), and configuration management practices
  • Knowledge of Django, Vue, Postgre

    SQL, React, and Spring Boot
  • Proficiency in writing unit tests (JUnit, Pytest, Jest)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of a key‑value store technology (Redis)
  • Knowledge of CI pipelines (Git Lab CI or similar)
  • Knowledge of Docker
