We are seeking an experienced Lead Computer Scientist/Engineer to join the Defense and Intelligence Solutions team at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas.

Objectives of this Role- Add a highly motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented Lead Computer Scientist to our dynamic team of Software Architects and Engineers.
- Contribute to and lead small teams through all aspects of the Software Life Cycle using Agile Methodologies.
- Support or lead design and development for new technical solutions and frameworks, including thin client, server-side development, OOP, embedded programming, and database patterns.
- Create and contribute to customer-required requirements, design, and documentation.
- Translate applied research solutions into robust, scalable, and sustainable product designs suitable for transition to operational environments.
- Support proposals and provide effective communication both verbally and in writing.
- Deliver task updates, recommend technical solutions, and support client interactions.
- Lead design and development of advanced software architectures utilizing OOP, embedded programming fundamentals, distributed computing, thin clients, and data distribution systems.
- Communicate task status to leadership and team members.
- Lead all phases of the project life cycle, from technical requirements to integration and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams on SW proposals and estimates, provide WBS assistance, and lead task estimation and schedule creation.
- Assess and quantify technical debt based on constraints and requirements.
- Maintain a hybrid home/office schedule with up to 25% travel, including occasional travel to government client facilities domestically and overseas.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field;
Master’s degree may reduce required years of experience. - High level of experience: 8 years of programming in languages such as JavaScript, Java, C#, C++, HTML5, and Python (7 years for candidates with a Master’s).
- Strong ability to analyze and translate complex technical requirements into application design, implementation, unit and integration testing, and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft tools, Teams, software repositories, build environments, and distributed computing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proactive, detail-oriented, fast learner, team player, and self-directed.
- Valid/clear driver’s license.
- Current DoD security clearance highly desired.
