Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure
Apply as a software engineering manager focused on building next‑generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies. This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas with occasional travel.
About the RoleAs a technical leader you will run an effective, remote engineering team that develops high‑quality distributed systems. You will coach engineers, set direction, and work with stakeholders to deliver software that runs at scale.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of remote engineers
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands‑on career development
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate and advance modern software development practices
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural review
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
- Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
- Deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking
- Experience with KVM, Ceph, SDN, containers, and Kubernetes
- Strong track record of developing and growing people
- Focused on delivering timely, high‑quality software
- Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or a similar degree
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
- Experience programming in C and/or Go
- Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly team sprints in person
