Description: This opportunity is closed to Senior Fellows (5 years or more past PhD). The Laser Remote Sensing Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center develops airborne and spaceborne laser altimetry. The LVIS sensor has been used to collect extensive datasets over Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. Work includes assembling air- and space-borne data sets, developing algorithms and models, and creating interactive visualization tools.
Example sites include the Antarctic Peninsula, Pine Island Glacier, Rink Ice, southern Greenland, and Marie Byrd Land.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze wide-swath LVIS altimetry data to assess surface elevation change.
- Combine datasets from other sensors such as ASTER, SPOT5, and ICESat-1.
- Develop algorithms and models to study cryosphere, ecosphere, and hydrosphere changes over time.
- Create interactive visualization tools for exploring Earth's surface.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree in Earth Science, Geosciences, or related field.
- Experience with remote sensing data and atmospheric science.
- Strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
