Position: Back-End Engineer (Scala / JDK)

Description

Napier AI’s AI‑powered platform detects financial crime in real time, analysing transactions and customer data to spot suspicious activity such as money laundering.

The Role:

Back‑End Engineer (Scala)

The Scala Engineer is a key member of our core Engineering team, building a powerful, flexible financial crime detection engine used by top Financial Institutions globally.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development, debugging and unit testing of product features following internal procedures and standards.
  • Diagnose and solve functional and performance/scalability issues.
  • Improve technical practices to maintain a continuously releasable end state, focusing on Git Hub, CI/CD and development processes.
  • Collaborate with tech leads, Solution Architects, Product Owners and stakeholders to design technical solutions aligned with business and technical goals.
Qualifications
  • Hands‑on programming experience – Scala and either Rust or Go.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Git Hub.
  • Cloud experience – Azure, AWS or GCP and data processing in cloud.
  • Database and SQL development experience, especially Postgre

    SQL.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with remote engineering teams and distributed delivery models.
Preferred Skills
  • Programming in Kotlin or Java.
  • Analytics engines such as Elastic Search.
  • Key Cloak, ETL tools, performance engineering, CI/CD and Dev Ops tooling.
  • Observability tools like Open Telemetry, Grafana, Prometheus.
