Software Developer Section Supervisor

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Software Developer Section Supervisor. This role supervises development staff that support applications based upon a variety of technologies, including Java web applications, Service Now applications, Jasper reporting tools, a .NET‑based cloud accounting platform, and RDBMS based upon Oracle, SQL Server, and Snowflake data warehouse. The section relies on Jira for day‑to‑day operations and uses SAFe.

This position reports to the Software & Data Systems Bureau Chief and requires working in the Helena, MT office at least 3 days a week.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology management, business management, computer science or information systems.

4 years of work experience in one or a combination of software development, web development, GIS development, database administration or related field.

2 years of experience managing any combination of software and/or web developers, GIS professionals, database administrators, or data warehouse/data analytics staff.

Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered, e.g., 8 years related experience and 2 years of supervision.

• Knowledge of a programming language such as Java, Agile Development; or knowledge of the Service Now platform; or ESRI technology and GIS solutions; or database platforms such as Oracle or SQL Server database environments; or web development tools and solutions.
• Proficient in contract, vendor, and procurement management.
• Knowledge of industry best practices and innovative technologies.
