They are now hiring a Staff Android Engineer to help shape the next generation of their core mobile application.

What You Will Do

As a Staff Android Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and building a fast, scalable, and engaging Android experience. You'll work alongside a cross-functional, cross-timezone team—including iOS engineers, product managers, and QA—to deliver user-first features that support a growing global audience.

Key responsibilities include:

• Working collaboratively with a brilliant cross-functional, cross-timezone team to make Grindr the best app it can be for its users

• Able to work across multiple work streams and use ambiguity as an opportunity for high‑level thinking

• Create innovation by guiding data‑driven decisions to adopt new technologies, architectures, and workflow

• Elevate your team's technical proficiency; help your team adopt new tools and ways of working

• Building Android applications, including proficiency with:
- Programming in Kotlin
- Managing large codebases and maintaining clean, structured code that is easier to understand, modify, and debug
- Performance optimization for large, complex applications to provide a smooth user experience
- Designing applications with scalability in mind

• Software engineering collaboration best practices and design patterns including MVVM, Coordinator, one‑way data flow, and modular architecture

Ideal Background

• 6+ years of experience building complex, production-level Android applications using Kotlin

• Track record of leading teams or major projects involving architecture, performance, and feature development

• Familiar with large‑scale mobile systems, including scalability, concurrency, and asynchronous programming models

• Strong understanding of modern Android development principles and libraries (e.g., Jetpack, Hilt, Room)

• Experienced in working cross‑functionally with product leaders, design, and executives

• Effective mentor and communicator with experience uplifting teams and processes

• Passionate about delivering performant, accessible, and user‑first mobile experiences

Preferred

• Hands‑on experience with Kotlin Coroutines and Coroutine Flows

• Experience working across time zones or with international teams

• Familiarity with backend or full‑stack systems and a willingness to collaborate cross‑platform (e.g., iOS, infrastructure)

• Contributions to open source or Android communities
