Position Description
The Human Sensorimotor Control Laboratory at the School of Kinesiology is seeking a temporary postdoctoral researcher to assist in developing a robotic exoskeleton for the physical rehabilitation of the upper limb function. The laboratory is translating an advanced prototype device into a minimum‑viable product that can be utilized in hospitals and clinics. The postdoc will equip the current prototype with new features and capabilities such as incorporating new sensors and redesigning the hardware and software prototype.
This temporary position will last 30 weeks from the start date.

ResponsibilitiesResearch and Development – 80%
- Develop a control system for a robot with multiple degrees of freedom.
- Coding software routines for robotic exoskeleton using Python and/or C++.
- Debug software routines and embed them into the robotic system architecture.
- Communicate with project supervisor and international partners.
- Assist in conducting clinical trial research, supporting experimental data collection, analysis, and presentation of results.
Entrepreneurship Efforts – 20%
- Work with the PI and team on commercialization efforts.
- Interview industry partners in neurorehabilitation to understand current standards of practice.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- Competence in mechatronics.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, & C#.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse communities, backgrounds, and identities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in advanced control systems and electromechanical design.
- Experience integrating force/torque sensors in robotic devices.
- Experience in robot kinematics and dynamics programming.
- Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in entrepreneurship skill development.
Pay Range: $35,217.00 for the 30‑week term, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
