Engineer II, GraphicsWe have a phenomenal opportunity to join our Developer Technology Group here at Play Station HQ in San Mateo, CA. We seek a graphics software engineer to assist studios from AAA to Indie, tackle complex engineering problems and research and develop innovative graphics techniques, algorithms, and tools. If this is you, we want to hear from you!
We offer flexible working hours and hybrid working, with most, though not all days working from home. We don’t have crunch like some game teams and aim to give staff a good work/life balance.
This position offers the opportunity to work remotely.
What You’ll DoSupport, educate, and push the boundaries of game technology for developers.
Directed R&D with the opportunity to create new technologies for developers.
Have ownership of projects that impact Play Station technology and game engineers directly.
Work with leading AAA studios and engineers around the world.
Become an expert in high‑end computing graphics technology.
Focus on graphics and systems technology at the deepest levels and areas of specialization.
What You’ll LearnDevelop a broad and deep understanding of console hardware, graphics, systems, and I/O.

General Responsibilities and Skills- Innovate graphics code and technology to maximize rendering quality and performance on Play Station platforms.
- Have a support and service‑oriented mindset.
- Proven ability to learn new skills and eager to embrace new challenges.
- Excellent collaborator and ability to work effectively and efficiently with others.
- Excellent communication skills through all mediums (verbal, written, etc.).
- Comfortable speaking to large groups publicly.
- Enjoy creating educational materials (PowerPoint, articles, etc.).
- Flexible in areas of development and assignment of tasks.
- Provide direct partner support through dedicated online developer portal, conferences calls, 1 on 1 meetings, etc.
Investigate and identify issues for developers to resolve blockers through code, technical guidance, and documentation.
Fulfill department KPIs (Key‑Performance‑Indicators) which are directly tied to department support metrics such quality of response, response times, resolution times, etc.
Participate in internal/external training which is driven by developer needs, including creation of content for Play Station partners at public and private events such as GDC, internal developer conferences, webinars, etc.
Have the ability to:
- Ramp‑up quickly on multiple topics/subjects to become the expert.
- Handle and prioritize multiple issues and projects at the same time.
- Mentor junior level engineers.
- Delegate, guide, encourage and assist others.
- Lead by example.
70% Hands‑on time providing technical guidance, researching solutions, debugging/implementing code, and improving documentation for partners.
15% Research, development, and creation of internal/external developer training content.
10% Mentorship and assistance for other engineers.
5% Participating in team meetings and other administrative tasks.
