Senior Data Engineer

Overview

Our client is a fast-growing startup transforming how brands, retailers, and employees connect through an innovative technology platform. By leveraging modern data and cloud technologies, they enable retail teams with data-driven insights and help consumer brands scale effectively across complex CPG verticals such as beauty, outdoor gear, and legal cannabis.

This role is open to candidates based in LATAM, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Please note that as this role supports U.S.

-based clients, candidates must be available to work during U.S. business hours aligned with the client’s time zone.

The Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in architecting and building the core data and backend systems that power the company’s platform. This role focuses on designing scalable backend services, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines that support data-driven decision-making and enable the company’s mission to transform the brick-and-mortar retail experience.

Platform & Backend Development

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using Node.js.
• Ensure platform reliability, performance, and scalability under high traffic and complex workflows.

Infrastructure as Code

• Define and manage cloud infrastructure programmatically using infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Build scalable, repeatable, and maintainable cloud environments.

Data Engineering & Pipelines

• Design and implement scalable batch and event-driven data pipelines.
• Handle data ingestion, transformation, and analysis to support platform optimization.
• Build and manage data warehouses or lake houses with a focus on accuracy, performance, and cost efficiency.

Cloud & Data Systems

• Leverage AWS services to build and operate serverless data pipelines.
• Ensure efficient orchestration and monitoring of data workflows.

Collaboration & Best Practices

• Collaborate closely with product, data science, and front-end teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Advocate for and implement best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and contribute to platform robustness.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend engineering.
• Proven experience building scalable data pipelines and data systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based architectures and data platforms.

Skills

• Proficiency in a modern object-oriented programming language, with the ability to ramp quickly on Node.js.
• Strong experience with AWS services, including serverless and data-related tools.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Strong understanding of data ingestion, transformation, and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with Databricks is preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Scalable backend systems and data pipelines that support platform growth.
• Reliable cloud infrastructure that meets performance and scalability goals.
• Efficient data warehouse or lakehouse solutions that balance accuracy, performance, and cost.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration resulting in high-quality technical outcomes.
