Lead Software Engineer – Technology (London, UK)
Made Tech is building human‑centred technology that improves public services. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to drive cloud, automation, tooling and culture as a tech lead, architect and mentor across multiple delivery teams.
About the roleWe write custom software for local and central government, health and other public sector clients. We deliver outcome‑based solutions using cloud automation, Dev Ops culture and infrastructure‑as‑code.
Responsibilities- Lead and coach engineering teams to deliver high‑quality, cloud‑native solutions for public sector customers.
- Own architecture, tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and ensure secure, scalable deployments on AWS.
- Drive outcome‑based delivery by collaborating with product, design and business stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous learning and open communication.
- Advise on platform strategy, automation practices and technical excellence across teams.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong cloud (AWS) and infrastructure‑as‑code skills.
- Experience leading full‑stack, polyglot teams and coaching teams in a true Dev Ops mindset.
- Proven expertise in architecture design, CI/CD, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and automation (Terraform, OpenAPI).
- Hands‑on experience with AWS Lambda, state‑ful services avoidance and serverless patterns.
- Strong delivery track record in an agile environment and cloud‑native applications.
- Excellent communication, mentoring and people‑management skills.
- Consultancy experience and working directly with customers and users.
- Pair programming, test‑driven development and experience building CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Terraform, Cloud Formation, and other IaC technologies.
- Experience with React ecosystem and component‑based UI design.
- Knowledge of security clearance (SC) eligibility.
- Competitive salary £70,000‑£90,000 / yr + bonus opportunities.
