ABOUTTHE ROLE
Spellbook is seeking a generalist Platform and Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll work across our entire technical stack—from infrastructure (AWS, Mongo
DB, infrastructure as code, Datadog, CI/CD) to platform capabilities that enable product development and system reliability. You'll be instrumental in building the technical foundations that enable Spellbook to scale and deliver magical experiences to our customers.
As a Platform and Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be a critical member of our small but mighty engineering team of 20 developers (and growing). You'll work on the foundational systems that power our product, with a focus on three key areas:
- Building technology foundations: Own and evolve foundational platform systems (for example: identity and access, core data models, and internal platform capabilities)
- Maintaining world-class quality: Drive us toward 99.5% service levels through improved monitoring, observability, and reliability practices. Establish QA foundations and development best practices.
- Enabling development velocity: Reduce friction in our dev environment and CI/CD pipeline. Introduce productivity metrics and tooling improvements that help our team move with comical speed.
- Infrastructure management and optimization (AWS, Mongo
DB, infrastructure as code) - Platform capabilities including but not limited to authentication, authorization, entitlement, AI inference
- CI/CD pipeline improvements and build tooling
- Worker queue management (BullMQ) and API development (tRPC)
- Developer experience improvements and tooling
Monitoring and observability (Datadog) - Service reliability and performance optimization
- You have exceptional communication skills. You can explain and advocate your ideas to a diverse audience, from product managers to executive leadership.
- You are a self-starter and problem-solver motivated by curiosity and a desire to help others succeed, encouraged by continuous improvement.
- You are a team player who is motivated to help Spellbook succeed. When things break you are eager and able to help fix them. You think of and implement ways to help and improve the work of the team as a whole.
- You have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of software development, computer engineering, and distributed systems.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and generalism. This isn't a pure infrastructure or pure platform role—you'll work across the stack and pick up whatever needs to be done to unblock the team.
- You move with urgency. You…
