Manager, Software Engineering; Developer

About the Role

Samsara is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing Developer Experience organization. In this role, you will lead the Operational Excellence and Release Management teams, responsible for building and scaling the core tooling that powers Samsara’s Connected Operations Cloud. This work sits on the critical path of both product velocity and customer experience. Every Samsara customer depends on the reliability, performance, and safety of our platform, and every engineer and product manager relies on your teams’ systems to build, deploy, and operate services with confidence.

• Lead the engineering team, shape engineering culture, and provide technical guidance
• Build infrastructure to ensure reliability of Samsara’s connected operations cloud under high loads
• Develop tooling for product teams to self‑service and own operation of their services and storage in responsive and cost‑effective ways
• Create abstractions for developers to understand their services health and adopt best practices to deliver the best customer experience in the industry
• Actively contribute to building the roadmap for infrastructure at Samsara
• Champion, role‑model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
• Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high‑performing team

• 8+ years of relevant software engineering work experience
• 2+ years of hands‑on technical management experience
• Experience building or working on critical production systems using AWS (preferred) or Azure/GCP
• 2+ years of experience building platforms and managing multiple stakeholders

• Experience working with geo‑distributed teams
• Deep knowledge of operating distributed systems at large scale and implementation best practices
• A passion for impact, scaling, continuous learning, and customer focus (e.g., willingness to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with product and success teams, and use metrics to drive outcomes)
• A collaborative mindset and a willingness to work in a fast‑moving environment
