Manager of Engineering, Windows Threat Protection

Role Overview

Are you a technical leader passionate about security, software engineering excellence, and delivering best-in-class protection to millions of customers? We are looking for a Manager of Software Engineering to lead our Windows Threat Protection team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a cross‑functional team that protects our customers from malware and other threats. This is a hybrid position located in either Waterloo or Toronto, Canada.

You will be onsite as needed; otherwise you will work from your home office.

Work with product managers, security researchers, data scientists, and engineers to create and drive the roadmap and deliver threat‑protection capabilities for Windows. Build a highly technical engineering team, focusing on mentoring and people development of industry talent. Provide architectural and technical guidance and ensure sound engineering practices are followed. Follow Lean and Agile processes and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

Contribute to and drive software engineering excellence across McAfee.

9+ years of engineering management experience, with at least 5 years of software engineering experience. Directly manage both development and quality assurance functions to deliver software on Windows at the OS‑internals levels. Strong knowledge of Windows internals, including Visual Studio, Win Dbg, COM/ DCOM, IPC/RPC, multi-threaded design, file systems (NTFS, FAT
32, exFAT), ETW, and WMI. Experience with secure software development concepts, threat‑modeling, and secure coding. Highly knowledgeable about Gen‑AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Git Hub Copilot. Proven track record of delivering high‑quality commercial software at scale to millions of users. Hands‑on ability to lead teams in an Agile/Scrum environment. Knowledge of the software development process—development, automation, build and deployment, and CI/CD pipelines.

Ability to measure application performance on Windows. Proficiency in modern C++ and Python. Knowledge of Rust, Golang, or Yara is a bonus.
