About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer to join our client’s dynamic team based in Nottinghamshire. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful projects within the healthcare and medical research sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services primarily using Golang, supporting a platform utilized in medical imaging and pathology environments.

The position offers a flexible working arrangement with remote work and quarterly visits to the office, providing a healthy work-life balance. With a competitive salary of up to £80,000, this role is ideal for engineers passionate about solving complex technical challenges and making a tangible difference in patient care and medical research.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in backend development with experience in languages such as Golang, C#, C++, or Java. A solid understanding of distributed systems, cloud-based architectures, and scalable backend services is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record of building reliable, maintainable backend applications and be comfortable participating in architectural discussions. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory if complemented by relevant hands-on experience.

Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technologies are highly valued. Experience in healthcare or medical imaging is advantageous but not a requirement; enthusiasm for working in a specialized, impactful field is critical.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing scalable backend services using Golang, ensuring they meet the high standards required for healthcare applications. Key responsibilities include enhancing existing platforms used within medical imaging and healthcare environments, contributing to architectural and technical design decisions, and building services capable of processing and managing large volumes of clinical and research data. The role involves supporting cloud-based deployments, implementing modern engineering practices, and collaborating closely with domain experts, healthcare specialists, and fellow engineers to address real-world challenges.

You will take ownership of features, participate in code reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The position also involves troubleshooting, optimizing system performance, and ensuring the security and integrity of sensitive data.

Benefits

Joining this organization offers numerous benefits, including the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a direct impact on healthcare and medical research. You will enjoy a flexible working environment with remote work options and quarterly in-person visits, promoting a healthy work-life balance. The role provides a competitive salary of up to £80,000, along with professional development opportunities, exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and the chance to influence system architecture and technical direction.

The company fosters a collaborative, inclusive culture where engineers are trusted to make decisions and contribute ideas. Additionally, you will be part of a team that values knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous learning, all within a supportive environment that recognizes and rewards your contributions.
