Embedded Systems/ Firmware/ IoT, Embedded Software Engineer, C++ Developer
As an Embedded Firmware Designer, you develop system control software for high‑tech products and machines.
In this role you support our customers in creating and integrating system control software for high‑tech equipment in the semiconductor, analytical, and medical equipment industry, within the Brainport region and beyond. Your software expertise plays a vital role in bringing high‑tech solutions to life for different operating systems, including state machine modelling and real‑time aspects.
What excites you as an Embedded Firmware Designer? From our office in Eindhoven, and occasionally at our clients’ premises, you enjoy working on:
- Developing and maintaining embedded firmware in C/C++ for real‑time, safety‑critical systems with a strong focus on reliability and performance.
- Designing scalable and maintainable firmware architectures by translating system requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Working with both bare‑metal and RTOS‑based systems to ensure deterministic and efficient real‑time behavior.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (electronics, FPGA, PSoC, and mechanics) to define system‑level trade‑offs and interfaces.
- Interfacing firmware with FPGA‑based hardware using protocols such as SPI, I2C, PCIe, and custom communication methods.
- Applying best practices in development processes, including code reviews, version control, CI/CD, and structured testing.
- Debugging and validating embedded systems using tools like JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes, while implementing diagnostics and error‑handling mechanisms.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in embedded firmware development, with strong proficiency in C/C++ for real‑time and embedded systems (including bare‑metal and RTOS‑based designs).
- Proven ability to design reliable, high‑performance firmware for safety‑critical environments and translate system requirements into maintainable architecture.
- Experience interfacing firmware with hardware and FPGA‑based systems (e.g., SPI, I2C, PCIe), including register‑level programming and hardware bring‑up.
- Solid understanding of electronics, including firmware constraints, diagnostics, self‑testing, and implementation of robust error handling and monitoring mechanisms; experience in high‑voltage or instrument control systems is a strong plus.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, combined with strong communication, ownership, and a structured approach to development, including code reviews, version control, CI/CD, testing, and debugging using tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Willingness to travel to client locations as needed and valid European driving license.
- Flexible 32‑40 hour working week, with room to work from home. A healthy work‑life balance is very important to us. We have 28 holidays with an option to buy an additional 12.
- You will work with passionate colleagues who share your drive for technology and business success.
- By combining our expertise in software, electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, mathematics and assembly, we make the impossible possible for our customers and work on challenging high‑tech projects.
- You get a lot of freedom and responsibility; after all, you know exactly what you are doing.
- Personal coaching and a training budget of 6000 per year, so that you can continue to develop yourself.
- We also find it important to have fun together. We organize a lot for our employees, from family festivals and sparkling Christmas parties, to inspiring knowledge sessions for the high‑tech community.
- You will be working at a prime location in the heart of the Brainport region. At our main office you can enjoy lunch, sports, making music, and share your knowledge in one of the Sioux Tech Labs (hobby clubs).
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the US Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require Sioux to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
