Senior Data & Analytics Engineer – Artificial Intelligence

Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer – Artificial Intelligence within the Architecture, Platforms & Intelligence team in Banking Technology.

Location:

Basel, Switzerland. Fixed‑term contract of three years. Remote work is available.

• Support the organization in the development, maintenance, and use of data, analytics, and applied artificial intelligence IT applications.
• Collect and analyse business requirements, design and develop new applications or features for existing ones, and provide production support.
• Design and implement testing and evaluation methodologies for AI applications, focusing on large language model applications.
• Conduct data exploration and pre‑processing to prepare large unstructured datasets for analysis, modelling, and use within AI applications.
• Develop APIs and interfaces for integrating AI models into existing systems and platforms.
• Monitor, maintain, and update models to ensure they continue to meet business needs.
• Maintain regular communication with internal and external stakeholders; assist junior staff; represent BIS at external events.
• Collaborate with financial and business teams to understand the organization’s financial structure and requirements.
• Develop own capabilities through training, coaching, professional accreditation, and continuous education.

• Degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Proven track record of designing, building, and optimising cutting‑edge AI solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with data pipelines, analytical models, data engineering tools, especially for preparing data for AI use cases.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience in a financial/banking environment (treasury, asset management, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience mentoring junior colleagues is a plus.
