Junior WordPress Developer

Ripple Recruitment have partnered with an ambitious digital agency based in Basingstoke that is looking for a talented Junior Developer to join their growing development team.
If you already have hands-on experience working on live web projects and are eager to accelerate your technical growth, this role offers a structured pathway to progress into a Full Stack Developer.
You will work closely alongside experienced developers and designers in a collaborative, design-led environment, gaining exposure across the entire development lifecycle—from front-end Word Press builds to back-end logic, database design, and cloud infrastructure.
This is a hybrid position requiring roughly two days a week onsite in Basingstoke, so candidates should be within a comfortable commuting distance (ideally with access to a car).
Overview
 
* Assist in creating, customising, and maintaining bespoke Word Press themes and plugins.
 
* Turn design wireframes into clean, responsive, cross-browser compatible web pages.
 
* Develop your skills writing clean, scalable code using HTML, SCSS, JavaScript/Type Script, and PHP.
 
* Learn to write and optimize SQL queries for database performance and reliability.
 
* Gain hands-on exposure to deployment processes, AWS cloud platforms, and Linux environments.
 
* Troubleshoot functional issues, squash bugs, and implement clean fixes across agency client sites.
 
* Stay curious about emerging web technologies, frameworks, and modern developer tooling.
Essential Skills & Experience
 
* Some commercial experience working, ideally within an agency, software house, or in-house development team.
 
* Solid experience customising, building, or maintaining Word Press sites (themes/plugins).
 
* Strong grasp of HTML5, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and responsive web design.
 
* Practical understanding of database interactions and basic query writing (MySQL/SQL).
 
* Comfortable using IDEs like Visual Studio Code, Git/version control, and local dev environments.
 
* A genuine passion for web technology and a drive to expand your skill set toward Full Stack development.

Desirable Experience
 
* Exposure to modern JS frameworks (React, Vue) or Type Script.
 
* Familiarity with Python or back-end scripting languages.
 
* Basic awareness of UI/UX design principles or technical SEO.
