Software Engineering Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineering Manager based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to lead and grow an engineering team building and scaling a modern cloud cost management platform. You will combine technical leadership, people management, and strategic execution to deliver impactful solutions for customers. Working closely with engineering, product, design, and leadership teams, you will help shape technical direction and product evolution. This is a hands‑on leadership position for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while developing high‑performing teams.

You will influence architecture decisions, improve engineering practices, and create an environment focused on ownership and innovation. Joining a fast‑moving, collaborative environment, you will play a key role in scaling both the product and the engineering organization.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing engineering team through coaching, feedback, career planning, and performance management.
• Partner with engineers to design scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications, data platforms, and infrastructure solutions.
• Drive architectural discussions and technical decision‑making, balancing speed, quality, scalability, and long‑term maintainability.
• Establish strong engineering practices around code quality, observability, reliability, testing, documentation, and operational maturity.
• Provide technical guidance across modern technologies including Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, dbt, Dagster, Snowflake, and cloud‑native services.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to align engineering execution with customer needs and business objectives.
• Support roadmap planning, prioritization, and delivery across multiple initiatives while identifying risks and dependencies.
• Improve engineering processes to increase team effectiveness, delivery predictability, and operational performance.
• Build a strong engineering culture based on accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Partner with leadership and recruitment teams to attract and hire exceptional engineering talent.
• Drive improvements in reliability, incident response, service ownership, and overall team health.
• Help scale the engineering organization while maintaining high standards during periods of growth and evolution.

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong technical background, proven people management capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience building and operating production systems.
• 2+ years of experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
• Strong background in backend engineering, data modeling, and data‑intensive systems.
• Experience working with technologies such as Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, dbt, Dagster, Snowflake, or similar modern data platforms.
• Proven ability to guide architectural decisions and influence technical strategy without needing to be the primary individual contributor.
• Experience partnering with Product, Design, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver customer‑focused solutions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage engineers, executives, and business teams.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, high‑growth environments where priorities evolve quickly.
• Experience building SaaS products or working in startup environments is highly valued.
• Experience with Fin Ops, cloud cost management, cloud infrastructure, or data platform products is a plus.
• Experience managing distributed remote engineering teams is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to scale teams, processes, and engineering practices during organizational growth.
