Backcountry seeks a senior engineer to enhance the architecture and reliability of our ecommerce platforms. Based remotely or in Toronto, you'll lead PHP development on Symfony and Laravel systems, improve performance, and reduce technical debt. This role empowers you to optimize user experiences while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and driving technical innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Drive architecture and develop high-quality PHP web applications
• Lead front-end development with JavaScript and CSS
• Champion AI-assisted development workflows across the team
• Own data layer design and query optimization
• Set engineering standards through documentation and mentorship
Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field
• 5+ years in software development with ecommerce focus
• Expertise in PHP (Symfony/Laravel)
• Strong JavaScript and CSS skills
• Experience with relational databases and AI coding tools
