MFK Recruitment is recruiting an Unreal Engine Developer for an innovative UK technology company developing advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions for defence, security and other demanding real-world environments.

The company specialises in computer vision, perception and autonomy, combining modern deep learning with neuroscience-inspired technology to create accurate, robust and reliable AI systems.

MFK Recruitment has successfully recruited four Engineers to this company over the past five years, and all four are still with the business. This speaks volumes about the company’s culture, technical challenges and long-term opportunities.

Unreal Engine Developer role

The Unreal Engine Developer will build synthetic imagery capabilities used to train, test and validate advanced AI and computer vision models.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply experience from games, simulation, VFX or virtual production to challenging AI projects with genuine real-world applications.

You will work alongside Unreal Developers, AI Researchers, Computer Vision Specialists, 3D Artists and Python/C++ Engineers to develop an automated platform for generating high-quality synthetic datasets.

The platform controls object placement, camera movement, lighting, weather conditions, image capture and automated scene generation at scale.

You will help transform an existing research platform into scalable, maintainable production software that can be used by both technical and non-technical users.

The position is predominantly office and customer-site based in West London, although some remote working will be available.

Unreal Engine Developer responsibilities

* Develop and improve Unreal Engine 5 applications for synthetic imagery generation.

* Automate object placement, cameras, lighting, weather and image-capture workflows.

* Transform an existing research platform into scalable production software.

* Work with AI and Machine Learning Engineers to optimise synthetic training datasets.

* Improve development, rendering and asset-production workflows.

* Develop intuitive tools that allow users to configure and generate synthetic imagery.

* Contribute to software architecture, technical design and product direction.

* Build and support CI/CD and containerised deployment processes.

* Support applications deployed within secure customer environments.

Essential experience

* At least three years of commercial Unreal Engine development experience.

* Strong experience developing applications using Unreal Engine 5.

* Strong C++ and/or C# development skills within Unreal or related real-time applications.

* Professional experience within games, simulation, VFX or virtual production.

* Strong knowledge of Unreal rendering, scene management and automation.

* Experience designing scalable, readable and maintainable production software.

* Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and containerised deployment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* The ability to work effectively with Developers, Engineers, Researchers and 3D Artists.

Desirable experience

* Synthetic data generation for Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.

* Computer vision or Machine Learning projects.

* NVIDIA Omniverse.

* Universal Scene Description workflows.

* Blender or other 3D content-creation tools.

* Python development.

* Defence, security, government or another regulated environment.

* An MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related subject.

Security clearance

Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK BPSS and Security Check clearance. Existing clearance would be advantageous but is not essential for every appointment.

Applicants for SC clearance are normally expected to have lived in the UK for the previous five years. A shorter period of UK residency or time spent overseas will not automatically prevent clearance, but eligibility will be assessed individually by the sponsoring authority
