Overview
Staff Software Engineer
- Capital One Travel Tech
- Full‑stack. Toronto, Canada. Work on the next generation of the travel portal, overseeing architecture, design, and delivery across the customer journey.
- Work as part of a dynamic team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Act as a tech lead developer owning technical design and development of cross‑functional, multi‑platform, fault‑tolerant application systems.
- Utilize programming languages including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, Angular/Type Script, Python, React, and/or Go, along with RDBMS and No
SQL databases, and AWS tools and services. - Continuously improve software engineering developer experience by identifying gaps in internal frameworks and tools.
- Establish engineering best practices, code review standards, and technical support to ensure standards are met.
- Own architecture decisions, apply High‑Level Design methodology and contribute to the HLD process.
- Provide mentorship to junior and intermediate associates through engineering best practices and code standards.
- At least 6 years of hands‑on development experience using at least two of the following programming languages:
JavaScript, Java, Angular/Type Script, Python, Node.js, React, and/or Go. - At least 6 years of experience with application and/or data design, architecture, and development.
- Proficiency in building both the user‑facing front‑end and the server‑side back‑end of applications.
- Experience providing mentorship to junior/intermediate associates and guiding technical and business stakeholders.
- 10+ years of experience leading the full life‑cycle of software development.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Experience working in an agile environment and familiarity with agile development methodologies.
- Experience with AWS (highly preferred) or other cloud products such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
- Previous experience at Capital One.
- Hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office and a one‑time work‑from‑home allowance.

The expected annual salary range for this position is $157,400 – $179,600. This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses.
