The Data Platform Engineer IV will join the Product and Services team as a senior, hands-on engineer, building cloud-based data platforms that support federal scientific and environmental programs in a remote work environment. This is not a generic data engineering role. You will design ingestion and processing pipelines, storage, integrations, APIs, and automation for scientific, geospatial, and Earth observation data, working with the large, complex, and often messy datasets that researchers and program teams depend on.
Working closely with the Senior Architect, this role translates solution designs into scalable, production-ready capabilities, writing production code and taking work from design through deployment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in cloud data platforms, pipeline development, and automation, along with real experience handling scientific data. You understand how these datasets are structured, how they are produced and versioned, and why provenance, quality, and reproducibility matter.
Success in this role means delivering production-grade platform capabilities that faithfully realize the architect's designs, run reliably with minimal intervention, and earn the trust of architects, data teams, scientists, and stakeholders.
This position requires the individual to undergo a badging process. Due to the deliverables on this contract, timing to get the individual onboarded is important and can be lengthy. In order to anticipate the timing of your badging, if offered the position, can you please confirm if you are a U.S. Citizen?*
Do you have hands-on professional experience working with scientific, geospatial, environmental, or Earth observation data?*
Have you worked directly with scientists, researchers, or technical domain experts on a project?*
Describe a project where you applied AI or ML to scientific or Earth observation data. What was the dataset and what did you build?*
