SQL Developer, Data Engineering, Software Engineer
This role is four days onsite at our Seneca One Buffalo, NY location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week
Overview:
The Senior Developer is responsible for the design, development, testing, implementation, and production support of data integration and processing solutions supporting the UCL data platform and its upstream and downstream consumers. The role works primarily with Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW), SQL/PLSQL, Oracle Cloud/OCI, data integration pipelines, and enterprise data sources, with responsibility for moving and transforming financial data through controlled development and release processes.
The position requires a developer who can independently analyze complex data requirements, design efficient SQL and data-processing solutions, troubleshoot data and performance issues, and work across Finance, Technology, architecture, testing, and vendor teams.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain SQL/PLSQL and Oracle ADW-based data processing solutions, including complex queries, transformations, views, extracts, and data-loading processes.
- UCL's current integration model includes ADW as a core processing/data platform and requires developers to work directly with substantial SQL and extract logic.
- Develop and support ETL/ELT and data integration pipelines between enterprise data sources and Oracle ADW, including Snowflake-to-ADW integration and other upstream/downstream data movements.
- Analyze source-to-target requirements, data mappings, transformation logic, filters, joins, reconciliation rules, and downstream extract requirements.
- The existing UCL process requires integration of incoming datasets into the UCL table structure/unified layer and subsequent creation of downstream extracts.
- Partner directly with downstream consumers to understand data requirements, required fields, filters, frequency, timing, validation criteria, and delivery expectations, reducing unnecessary handoffs between development teams.
- Investigate and resolve data-quality, transformation, reconciliation, and SQL defects, determining whether problems originate in source data, business logic, integration logic, or downstream processing.
- Troubleshoot Oracle ADW performance, including long-running SQL, execution plans, CPU/I/O contention, parallel execution, temporary-space utilization, and other database bottlenecks.
- Design solutions capable of supporting increasing data volume, processing frequency, batch-runtime, and SLA requirements, including the movement from monthly toward more frequent/daily processing.
- Support integration between UCL and technologies/platforms such as Oracle DIS, Oracle DFCS, Snowflake, Workiva, Axiom, Alteryx, OCI, and other enterprise data sources/consumers as required by the application architecture.
- Participate in development, unit testing, SIT, UAT/CERT, release, deployment, and production validation, ensuring changes can be promoted safely through DEV, TEST/SIT, CERT/UAT, PREPROD, and PROD.
- Diagnose production and lower-environment issues involving SQL logic, data discrepancies, interfaces, batch processing, performance, configuration, and data dependencies, and work with appropriate teams through resolution.
- UCL/FDI delivery history shows active developer involvement in defect remediation, testing, SIT/review transitions, and release readiness.
- Provide technical guidance and code/design review for other developers and help identify inefficient, incorrect, or unsustainable implementation approaches before they reach higher environments.
The role is not just an SQL developer. Developers operate within a controlled enterprise SDLC:
Create and maintain Jira Stories/Tasks for development work and ensure work is associated with the appropriate Jira Feature. Participate in refinement and provide technical analysis and estimates before development begins. Maintain traceability between requirements, development, testing, architecture, and deployments. Feature IDs must be represented in the Solution Architecture Document, and development changes must remain traceable through the promotion lifecycle. Participate in technical and architecture reviews and identify assumptions, dependencies, risks, constraints, and design issues early enough to prevent downstream rework.
Keep Jira work current as code/configuration progresses through development - testing - review - deployment. Support documentation necessary to promote application…
