You’ll collaborate closely with backend engineers, product managers, UX designers, and partner-facing teams to build intuitive integration tools, improve onboarding workflows, and develop features and offerings that help partner agencies successfully integrate with Login.gov.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who understands both backend application development and frontend architecture, with a passion for usability, accessibility, clean code, and simplifying complex technical integrations.
What You’ll Do- Design, develop, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications and services supporting partner onboarding and integration workflows.
- Build intuitive, responsive frontend experiences that help partner agencies configure, implement, test, and manage their Login.gov integrations.
- Develop reusable, standards-based web components using modern JavaScript, vanilla JavaScript, Ember.js, and Lit.
- Build and maintain frontend applications using Vite as the primary build tool.
- Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services to support partner-facing features and application workflows.
- Collaborate with product, UX, and engineering teams to translate partner needs into clear, accessible, and maintainable user experiences.
- Apply accessibility best practices and WCAG standards to ensure inclusive experiences across applications and devices.
- Improve existing applications through refactoring, performance optimization, dependency updates, and modernization of legacy code.
- Develop and maintain automated tests for frontend components, Rails applications, and API integrations.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architectural decisions across the frontend and backend.
- Troubleshoot production issues, investigate integration challenges, and improve the reliability and usability of partner-facing tools.
- Contribute to documentation and engineering practices that make it easier for partner agencies to adopt and integrate with Login.gov.
- Partner agencies can onboard and integrate with Login.gov through clear, intuitive, and well-documented workflows.
- Frontend components are reusable, accessible, responsive, and maintainable.
- Rails services and APIs reliably support partner integration features and business workflows.
- Integration issues are easier to diagnose, resolve, and prevent through better tooling and user experiences.
- New partner-facing features are delivered with strong test coverage, sound engineering practices, and minimal operational friction.
- The team continuously improves the developer and integration experience for organizations adopting Login.gov.
- Help improve the integration experience for partner agencies delivering secure digital identity services.
- Work on a mission-driven platform that supports trusted access to government services.
- Contribute across the stack, from Rails backend services to modern frontend applications and reusable web components.
