Job Title: AI-Native Staff Engineer

Location: Remote (U.S.)

Employment Type: Contract (W2 through Zip Staff — No C2C or 1099)

Zip Staff is seeking an AI-Native Staff Engineer for a small, focused AI-native delivery team at a healthcare analytics and payment integrity organization.

You will use Claude, Copilot, or equivalent tools to generate large volumes of production-bound code across the stack, then own, review, and make that code production-ready. You will also guide a small team. This role is not focused on training AI models or building machine learning pipelines.

• Build and enhance production-grade software using AI-assisted development workflows.
• Translate product and technical requirements into working, maintainable software.
• Use AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, and documentation.
• Review, validate, and refine AI-generated code for correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Design and implement clean APIs, services, and application components.
• Contribute to scalable backend systems and full-stack solutions.
• Orchestrate AI tools across code generation, test creation, debugging, and documentation.
• Collaborate with the AI-Native Tech Architect and the small AI-native team to deliver features end-to-end.
• Guide a small team and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with recent hands-on production development.
• Daily use of AI-native tooling — Claude, Git Hub Copilot, or equivalent — to generate, review, and refine production code.
• Strong Java experience building backend services and APIs.
• Database design experience with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to review and harden AI-generated code for security, performance, and maintainability.
• Experience spanning backend services, frontend components, APIs, workflows, and test code.
• Comfort guiding a small team while remaining hands-on.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

• Experience establishing or refining AI-assisted engineering standards.
• Healthcare, payment integrity, or regulated industry background.
