Java Developer / Backend Software Engineer (Spring Boot AWS API Kafka) London / WFH to £60k

You could be working on a financial Tech for Good product in an impactful Head of Software Architecture role at a scaling tech business.

The platform enables easier money transfer to people in emerging economies, disaster and war zones that do not have access to a bank account; enabling relatives, charities, the UN and UNICEF to get money to remote communities where it is needed most using sophisticated technology.

As a Java Developer you will develop and maintain integrations between internal platforms and third party systems using AWS services such as ECS Fargate, SQS, MSK, S3 and IAM. You'll also contribute to the team's Operational Data Store, built using Debezium, Java, Spring Boot and Aurora Serverless v2.

You'll own features from design through to release, writing production quality code and automated tests while contributing practical ideas to architecture and design discussions. You'll also build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, develop CI/CD pipelines with Git and Git Hub Actions and support monitoring and data quality using Dynatrace.

AI assisted development is an important part of the role. You'll use coding assistants and LLM powered tools in your day-to-day work, share effective techniques with colleagues and help champion AI adoption across the engineering team. Working with Technology and Operations stakeholders, you'll translate requirements into working software, participate in code reviews and proactively identify opportunities to improve the integration platform.

Location / WFH:

There's a hybrid model, you'll join colleagues in the London, City office three days a week with flexibility to work from home the other two.

About you:

• You have strong Java, Spring Boot backend development experience
• You have a good understanding of cloud architecture, AWS
• You have experience of working on data centric systems and understand how data is synchronised
• You have experience of building APIs and working on integrations
• You have experience with Kafka or similar data / messaging tools
• You're familiar with IaC, Terraform, Git Hub Actions
• You have an understanding of scalable, event driven systems
• You're collaborative with great communication skills
