Software Engineer Intern : Strategic Student Program

Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our D-Cubed Components team based at our Cambridge (UK) office for a 12 months internship
. D-Cubed Components software lies at the heart of the algorithms that enable modern engineering design practices on mobile, desktop and cloud platforms, and is used by a wide range of major CAD software vendors. As part of the development team, you will be working directly on cutting-edge algorithms that advance the state of the art of CAD software.

• Work with customers to understand and interpret their requirements.
• Research, design and implement reliable, efficient algorithms, with a focus on surpassing customers’ expectations by achieving high quality and on-time delivery.
• Undertake all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including project management, requirements definition, functional specification, test planning, algorithm/software design and coding
• Create and execute software designs which may involve complicated workflows

• Enrolled on a course that includes a year-long industrial placement.
• Sound knowledge of vector algebra and the ability to apply it to three-dimensional problems.
• Programming experience in C, C++ or another high-level programming language.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to numerical accuracy and detail.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
• Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn unfamiliar mathematical and software concepts.

• Experience with AI tools for coding – for example, Copilot or Claude Code

• Work on real-world technology that powers software used by major engineering brands across the globe.
