Job Description & How to Apply Below
Platform Engineering is the department within SRE that runs MongoDB’s critical infrastructure, including its multi-cloud Kubernetes infrastructure, networking, load balancing, and observability and alerting systems. The Fleet Management team manages the full lifecycle of MongoDB’s Kubernetes fleet and the components that keep clusters reliable and secure, such as CoreDNS, cert-manager, and Gatekeeper. As infrastructure scales, the team is migrating from Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code to an Operator-driven lifecycle management model.
You will join a small team of software engineers with a strong bias toward building software that eliminates toil.
- Develop and maintain a scalable, secure runtime environment on Kubernetes that supports product needs across MongoDB
- Provide internal support for the Kubernetes ecosystem, partnering with engineering teams to solve domain-specific problems
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to resolve critical issues
- Run blameless post-mortems and dedicate engineering time to systemic fixes so the same issue never pages you twice
- 6+ years of experience in software development and operating distributed systems
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or a similar language, with a strong commitment to code quality and testing (unit, integration, and E2E)
- Deep experience using and extending containerization technologies, preferably Kubernetes
- Solid understanding of Linux internals and networking concepts (file systems, TCP/IP, DNS, TLS)
- A customer-focused mindset that treats internal developers as primary users
- Strong operational ownership, with a track record of debugging complex production issues and driving them to resolution
- A preference for automation over manual operations work
- Must be a US citizen
