Railroad Grapple Truck Material Handling Operator (100% Travel)

National Salvage & Service Corporation is a trusted industry leader in the dismantling of railroad tracks, the removal of railroad ties from right‑of‑ways and the demolition of bridges. Railroad track removal and demolition is National’s core business – we have been removing tracks since National was founded in 1980.

National Salvage is searching for a GRAPPLE TRUCK MATERIAL HANDLING OPERATOR who is results oriented and has a self‑motivated work ethic. They will be able to quickly resolve any safety issues that may arise on track, while maintaining both company and Railroad compliance regarding safety. This position requires a CDL Class A and/or B and at least 2 years of experience.

The ideal operator will have a deep sense of partnership with our Home Office Team and our Railroad Partners, be self‑motivated to meet deadlines, and be looking for a long‑term career with great benefits.

Essential Functions of the Job
  • Travel is required, 4 weeks out then 1 week at home.
  • Hauling railroad ties, scrap metal, scrap wood, and equipment.
  • Physically able to secure loads: strapping, tarping and torquing.
  • Able to work long hours, overtime, and possible weekends in all weather conditions.
  • Filling out daily paperwork and working independently.
  • Ability to use a smartphone, GPS, and Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems on equipment.
Qualifications
  • Class A and/or B CDL required.
  • Friendly approach when working with customers.
  • Good communication with dispatchers and office employees, written and verbal.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Completely and accurately fill out daily paperwork.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to make small repairs (change hydraulic hose, grease and lube, safety walk‑around inspection).
  • Follow all Safety Program, Policies and Procedures.
  • Must be able to pass a pre‑offer drug test and will be subject to FRA random drug testing.
