133/137 Chief Pilot / Assistant Chief Pilot (Pathway to Chief Pilot) Company Description

TIMBERLINE HELICOPTERS (THI) is a heavy lift utility helicopter company based in Sandpoint, Idaho. We operate K‑Max and UH‑60 helicopters specializing in utility, construction, firefighting, and logging. We’re a team of highly experienced professionals with the ability to get work done and we’re looking for a Chief Pilot with the experience necessary to complement our operations, culture, and lead our flight ops department.

Role Description

This is a full‑time, remote Chief Pilot / Assistant Chief Pilot role structured as a pathway to Chief Pilot. Depending on qualifications and operational fit, candidates may enter as Assistant Chief Pilot before progressing into the Chief Pilot role.

Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with FAA Part 133 and 137 regulations, supervising and mentoring flight crews, and actively championing the company’s Safety Management System (SMS). The role supports pilot training and standardization, conducts pilot evaluations, assists with scheduling and mission coordination, and manages administrative duties related to regulatory compliance, pilot payroll, and operational logistics.

This is a flying leadership position requiring active engagement in flight operations and close coordination with safety, maintenance, and operations leadership.

Role Demands

This position involves consistent, hands‑on work beyond flight time including record‑keeping, training development, scheduling, logistics, regulatory/customer coordination, and ongoing operational problem‑solving.

This is a demanding leadership role suited for someone who is highly self‑directed, disciplined, and motivated to continuously improve operations. Success in this position requires dedication to the mission and the ability to produce meaningful work independently in a remote environment.

Qualifications
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills with experience mentoring and supervising
  • Working knowledge of Part 133/137 operations and regulatory compliance
  • Utility helicopter flight experience, particularly in heavy‑lift utility operations (UH‑60 and/or K‑Max preferred)

  • Clear, professional communication skills with the ability to foster a culture of safety and teamwork
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective problem‑solving ability
  • Commercial Helicopter Pilot Certificate with appropriate ratings and qualifications
  • Solid computer proficiency required for manuals, training systems, scheduling, and operational communications
